You need to know how to choose the right one, depending on what you need it for.

In this guide, we picked what we consider the best neck knives for EDC, survival and everything in between. Our goal is to help you out in your purchase decision when getting one of these cool knives. So sift through our guide and don’t forget to tell us what you think in the comments.

Benefits of Carrying a Neck Knife

Like everything, neck knives have their pros and cons. Here is a look at some of the advantages of having a neck knife with you.

  • Easy to Carry: Whether you need one for EDC or camping, survival situation, etc. a neck knife is a handy tool to have as it is easy to carry. All you do is wear it around your neck on a chain or paracord and you are all set! You do not have to worry about finding the best keychain or belt attachment to secure it on.
  • Outstanding Size and Weight: Neck knives are compact and lightweight, which is again great for carrying around and you can discreetly wear it on your neck without it bothering you. Your knife stays hidden, but you can still use it whenever or wherever you need to.
  • Always with You: It can be pretty tough to find a knife that you can have with you at all times, but with a neck knife, you do not have to worry about that. You can have it with you at all times no matter where you are. It is right there, easily accessible, whenever you need it.
  • Very Sharp: While they may look small and more like an accessory, you will be surprised by how sharp some neck knives are. This is why many people prefer them over other knives for EDC. They can perform just about any task you put them through with razor sharp blades.

CRKT Minimalist Wharncliffe Neck Knife: Compact Fixed Blade Knife - 2385 Folts Utility Knife - Bead Blast Blade, Resin Infused Fiber Handle & SheathThis is a superb neck knife with a full tang Wharncliffe blade style, which makes it look awesome and perform well. The blade material is 5Cr15MoV steel, which is excellent as it gives you a solid, durable knife.

The 2-inch blade is incredibly sharp and holds its edge well too. Unlike a lot of the other small neck knives out there, the Micarta handle with three finger choils is highly functional for a range of cutting tasks. If you are looking for a compact and lightweight knife that is comfortable and solid, the CKRT Folts Minimalist is the one for you. Even Detective AniBezzerides from True Detective would approve and she proved she knows how to use a knife!

It is sharp, super light and best of all, easy to carry. We believe it is an excellent knife to have with you at all times and to use it in your everyday tasks. For many, it is the most useful knife they own.

If there was anything that we would like to change, it would be the steel used to make the blade and a few small tweaks in the fit and finish. Other than this, there are no complaints and we highly recommend the Folts Minimalist knife to anyone looking for an affordable EDC neck knife.

Pros Cons

2. ESEE Candiru

ESCANDE-BRK Candiru Dark EarthMade of premium 1096 steel, the Candiru is a beautifully designed and well-built neck knife. Compact and lightweight yet strong and durable, it is a handy neck knife to have. The textured powder coat gives it a nice touch and many users say that it is superior to the finishes on other well-known brands. The skeletonized handle is comfortable to use.

The Candiru comes with the molded white Kydex sheath as well as a clip plate. It is sharp and holds its edge well, even after multiple uses. If you are looking for a cool-looking neck knife with impressive features, this is the one for you.

Opinion: We have some sensational things to say about the ESEE Candiru. We believe it is one of the most well-made neck knives. We find that it is versatile and profound for all types of small tasks. It is sharp and the edge stays sharp for a long time, even after using it several times for various jobs. Although it is quite small, you can be sure that it is solid and strong, not to mention durable.

If there was anything that should be changed, it would be the skeletonized handle – it is uncomfortable to use and feels like it can slip anytime while you are using it. If you use a Micarta scale handle over it, it becomes a completely different knife and feels amazing in the hand. This is the only complaint that we have. Apart from that, we can say that the Candiru does not have that many flaws and recommend it as a small knife to complement a larger one or to be used alone for EDC.

Detective Riggs from Lethal Weapon would approve!

This does not mean you should try to play games with it like the marine team did in Aliens with a knife with Bishop, the robot. No stabbing the knife in between your fingers at high speeds or at all!

Opinion: We believe that Schrade did an excellent job with this knife and we are not the only ones who think that way. For many users who have bought and used the Schrade SCHF16, there is no other small survival knife quite like it. In fact, some users bought two because they liked it so much. You can add it to your survival kit or carry it as an EDC knife. No matter what you need it for, you can be sure that this knife will not let you down. We believe that it is a fantastic piece of work. You probably do not want to be on a receiving end of one. Certainly, Casey Ryback in Under Seige would approve the Enyo! Though those terrorists probably would not want Ryback to have any weapons at all! He does enough damage with his bare hands!

However, there is one complaint we have – the price. We find it a little too expensive for a neck knife. Otherwise, we can finally say that the Enyo is a terrific little knife and we are sure you will be happy if you decide to purchase one.

Now you should be much more knowledgeable about neck knives than ever before. You may not be Jack Bauer or Jack Reacher but with the right knife, you could be in the conversation. My favorite neck blade is the DMax by Max Venom. It is a modified karambit style blade forged out of a solid piece of S35VN steel. Has a karambit retainment ring, and multiple hand use configurations.
