Introduction

An everyday carry (EDC) pouch is something you should not step out of the house without. It can be a lifesaver – quite literally in some cases – in the event of an emergency.

Your EDC pouch should contain items that you use on a daily basis – phone, charger, power bank, keys, wallet, and essential medications – as well as items that you might need in case of an emergency – flashlight, knife, multi-tool, lighter, and signal whistle.

Tips for Choosing the Best EDC Pouch

Size

The first thing you need to do while choosing an EDC pouch is to figure out what size your pouch needs to be. Depending on your needs, you can choose a micro-sized pouch, pocket-sized pouch, or something larger.

The best way to figure it out is to make a list of all the items you need to carry with you on a daily basis, as well as a few items that you might need in case of an emergency. Once you have the list, you can look for a pouch that has sufficient storage space for all your items.

Ideally, your EDC pouch should be 1 liter or less in volume and should be compact enough to fit comfortably into your cargo pocket or bag.

Organization Features

The best EDC pouch is one that has a wide range of internal as well as external organization features that can help you keep all your items neatly organized. These include interior pockets, sleeves, webbing, hooks, and MOLLE attachments.

Craftsmanship

This is a key factor you should pay attention to while choosing an EDC pouch. The pouch should be sturdy enough to withstand the wear-and-tear associated with daily use.

You should look for a pouch made of ballistic nylon, leather, or canvas, as these materials are known for their durability. Other features you should look for include:

  • Water-proof and abrasion-proof exterior
  • Strong, corrosion-resistant zippers
  • Double stitched seams
  • Double stitched webbing
  • Reinforced buckles
  • Strong attachment points

Mobility

Is the EDC pouch small and light enough for you to carry around? Can you attach it to your belt loop if needed? Can you run with it in case of an emergency or will it slow you down?

Does the pouch have separate, zippered compartments for your EDC items so that they do not jumble around when you run? These are all important things you need to consider while choosing your EDC pouch.

Things to Avoid in Your EDC Pouch

Single Compartment

Avoid EDC pouches with a single compartment, even if they have sufficient storage space. Lumping all your EDC items together is never a judicious idea, as it can make it difficult for you to find the item you need in case of an emergency.

Moreover, if and when you have to run – to catch a bus, to evade a group of hostile people, to chase someone after, or for any other reason – the EDC items in your pouch might jumble around and get damaged. So, always look for a pouch organizer with compartmentalized storage space.

Large Storage Space

You might find it surprising, but large storage space can actually be a liability when it comes to an EDC pouch. If it is too big, you might be tempted to pack it with items you do not really need to carry with you every day. If you do, the pouch might be too heavy for you to carry around, which defeats the very purpose of buying an EDC pouch.

Remember – an EDC pouch is not meant to fit all your survivalist gear. That is what a bug-out bag is for. Your EDC pouch should only contain those items that you absolutely cannot do without – even for a day.

Top 10 EDC Pouches

 #1

CONDOR Tactical Sidekick Pouch

Condor Sidekick Pouch Black

Our Rating: (4.6/5)
Size: 10 x 8.6 x 2.6 in
Weight: 8.0 Oz

Pros:
(+) Compactly designed
(+) External pocket can fit your smartphone
(+) MOLLE compatible
Cons:
(-) Lack of internal compartments
(-) Zipper does not open and close smoothly

This is a handy little pouch to store your EDC items. It has an interior pocket, an exterior pocket, multiple elastic holders, and MOLLE webbing. It opens fully, which makes it easier to get things in and out quickly. The pouch looks quite stylish and is available in different colors like black, coyote brown, navy, and olive drab.

The zipper is not as smooth as we thought it would be. So, you might have to hold the pouch with one hand when you open or close the zipper. The lack of additional compartments is also a major downside, as the elastic holders cannot hold all your EDC items.

 #2

Reebow Gear Tactical MOLLE EDC Utility Pouch

REEBOW GEAR Tactical Molle EDC Utility Pouch Gadget Belt Waist Bag with Cell Phone Holster Holder for iPhone 6 Plus Note Ranger Green

Our Rating: (4.9/5)
Size: 7 x 4.75 x 1.5 in
Weight: 7 Oz

Pros:
(+) Quality craftsmanship
(+) Made of high-denier nylon fabric
(+) Compartmentalized storage space
(+) Adjustable MOLLE straps
Cons:
(-) Hard to fit large phones into the phone compartment
(-) Has a tactical look

This is a ruggedly made pouch that can withstand a lot of abuse. It is made of 1000D Cordura nylon, which is lightweight, water-resistant, and extremely durable. The stitching is excellent and the zippers are easy to open and close.

There are two zippered compartments and a MOLLE pouch, where you can keep your charger, power bank, keys, wallet, knife, and all the other items. The MOLLE pouch can also be used as a holster for your gun. There is a separate compartment for your smartphone as well.

On the downside, the phone compartment is designed for an average-sized smartphone. If your phone is slightly larger in size, you might find it difficult to fit it in, even with the elastic bands. Also, the pouch – particularly the black colored one – has a tactical look, which can make it harder for you to blend in with the crowd.

 #3

CONDOR Pocket Pouch

Condor Pocket Pouch/US Patch (Black, 7.25 x 5-Inch)

Our Rating: (4.9/5)
Size: 6.75″ x 4.75″
Weight: 14 Oz.

Pros:
(+) No-frills design
(+) Good craftsmanship
(+) Affordably priced
Cons:
(-) Organization features not up to the mark
(-) Snaps are too tight

CONDOR is known for its high-quality, function-focused products and the pocket pouch is not an exception. The pouch is neatly designed and is compact enough to fit into your cargo pocket.

The craftsmanship is excellent. The zippers are of high quality. You can open and close the pouch a thousand times without worrying about the zippers coming apart.

There are three internal compartments to keep all your essential items. There is an external mesh pocket as well, where you can keep some of your EDC items for easy access. It comes in three colors – black, coyote brown, and olive drab. The USA flag patch, which matches the color of the pouch, looks really cool.

On the downside, the internal organization features are not up to the mark. Some of the loops are stitched too close together, so you might find it difficult to fit in anything other than a pen. The snaps are also too tight for our liking.

 #4

Maxpedition EDC Pocket Organizer

Maxpedition E.D.C. Pocket Organizer (Black)

Our Rating: (4.7/5)
Size: 4″(L) x 1″(W) x 6″(H)
Weight: 4.2 Oz.

Pros:
(+) Reliable and reputable brand
(+) Ample storage space
(+) Impressive organization features
(+) MOLLE compatible
Cons:
(-) Zippers are of average quality
(-) Not meant for bulky EDC items

This is a quality product from Maxpedition, which is a brand that needs no introduction when it comes to survival gear. It has ample storage space, which is neatly compartmentalized for your convenience.

On the left side are a slip pocket, a key ring, and a stretchable elastic organizer with nine divisions. On the right side are a slip pocket, a tie-down loop, and a stretchable elastic organizer with six divisions. In addition to this, there is a mesh pocket as well.

The pouch is MOLLE compatible, has an oversized handle, and can fit comfortably into your cargo pocket.

The zippers, to our surprise, seem to be made of medium-grade plastic and do not look durable. Also, this pouch is not designed to accommodate bulky items. For that, you need to check out the Maxpedition Fatty pocket organizer.

 #5

VANQUEST EDCM-Husky 2.0 Maximizer

VANQUEST EDCM-Husky 2.0 Maximizer (Every-Day-Carry-Maximizer) (Wolf Gray)

Our Rating: (4.6/5)
Size: 8” (H) x 6” (W) x 2” (D)
Weight: 6.4 Oz.

Pros:
(+) Excellent craftsmanship
(+) Made of high-quality nylon fabric
(+) Organized storage space
(+) MOLLE compatible
Cons:
(-) Larger than the average EDC pouch
(-) Expensive

This is one of the best EDC pouches available on the market today. It is made of 1000D Cordura nylon and has a Teflon water-repellent coating. It has high-quality RC-class YKK #8 zippers, which are durable and easy to open and close.

The pouch has one external and three internal storage compartments, which offer plenty of space to pack all your essential EDC items. Apart from this, there are 21 elastic slots, which offer additional storage space.

The staggered/offset elastic loops are designed like a honeycomb to maximize storage space and to reduce unused space as much as possible. So, the Husky 2.0 offers more internal storage compared to traditional organizers.

The pouch is quite versatile in terms of its design. You can attach it to a MOLLE/PALS surface (using MOLLE sticks, which are sold separately) or attach a strap and use it as a shoulder bag.

The Husky 2.0 is slightly larger than the average EDC pouch. It might not be a good fit for those who are looking for a micro-sized pouch. Also, it is more expensive than the average EDC pouch.

 #6

Cocoon CPG10BK GRID-IT! Accessory Organizer

Cocoon CPG10BK GRID-IT! Accessory Organizer - Medium 12" x 8" (Black)

Our Rating: (5.0/5)
Size: 10.2 x 12.2 x 13.8 in
Weight: 11.7 Oz.

Pros:
(+) Easy-to-access storage system
(+) Can accommodate all your items – large and small
(+) Holds your items firmly
Cons:
(-) Too large for your pocket
(-) Zippered pocket is too tight

This is a uniquely designed pouch which can effortlessly accommodate all your EDC items. Unlike regular EDC pouches, this one does not have storage compartments. Instead, it features a one-of-its-kind rubberized woven elastic object retention system, which can hold all your items securely in place, even when you are on the move.

The grid-like storage system also makes it easier for you to check if you have packed everything you need. You do not have to dig through pockets or compartments, like you do with regular EDC pouches. You can simply glance at the pouch to see if you have packed all your items.

The zippered compartment on the back of the pouch, however, is too tight for our liking. You might not be able to fit anything into it. Also, the pouch will not fit into your pocket. You need to put it in your backpack.

 #7

Maxpedition Fatty Pocket Organizer

Maxpedition Fatty Pocket Organizer (Black)

Our Rating: (4.4/5)
Size: 5″(L) x 2″(W) x 7″(H)
Weight: 3.52 Oz.

Pros:
(+) Plenty of storage space
(+) Sturdy zippers and handle
(+) Compact design
Cons:
(-) Elastic loops are very rigid
(-) External mesh is not as sturdy as internal pockets

This is a larger version of the Maxpedition EDC pocket organizer. Despite its name, the Fatty is compact enough to fit into the pocket of your dress pants, jeans, or cargo pants.

The pouch has two internal compartments – a slip pocket and a zippered pocket – as well as an external compartment. It also has a number of elastic organizers in different sizes. It is MOLLE compatible and can be secured to your bag or backpack organizer easily. You can also carry it with you using the oversized handle.

The nylon material is thick and sturdy and the zippers and the handle are also quite durable. You do not have to worry about the bag coming apart at the seams, even if you pack it to the brim.

The elastic organizers are a bit of a letdown, as they are very hard to stretch. The external mesh webbing is also not as sturdy as the internal compartments.

 #8

Spec Ops Brand Pack-Rat Organizer

Spec.-Ops. Brand Pack-Rat Organizer (Coyote Brown)

Our Rating: (4.3/5)
Size: 10” x 7 ¼” x 3”
Weight: 5.6 Oz.

Pros:
(+) High-quality craftsmanship
(+) Durable
(+) Lifetime warranty
Cons:
(-) Too narrow to fit in bulky items
(-) Not MOLLE compatible

The Pack-Rat, true to its name, allows you to pack a number of EDC items of varying sizes. There are 14 storage compartments, which should be sufficient to fit in all your essential items.

The pouch is made of 1000D Cordura nylon. The exterior of the pouch is lined with heavy-duty nylon pack cloth. The attachment points are made of high-tensile nylon and the stress points have bar-tack reinforcements for added durability.

The Pack-Rat is made in the USA and comes with a lifetime warranty.

On the downside, the Pack-Rat is narrower in size compared to other, larger organizers like the Maxpedition Fatty. So, you might find it difficult to fit in bulky items. Also, it is not MOLLE compatible.

 #9

Maxpedition Micro Pocket Organizer

Maxpedition Micro Pocket Organizer (Black)

Our Rating: (4.3/5)
Size: 3.5″(L) x 1″(W) x 5.5″(H)
Weight: 1.6 Oz.

Pros:
(+) Durable material
(+) Water, grime, and abrasion resistant
(+) Easy to fit into your pocket
Cons:
(-) Cannot accommodate bulky items
(-) Elastic loops are not easily stretchable

The micro pocket organizer from Maxpedition is a compactly designed pouch which can fit right into your cargo pocket. It is made of 800D ballistic nylon. The exterior of the pouch is coated with Teflon for grime resistance and polyurethane for water resistance.

The pouch has mesh webbing, slip pockets, and elastic loops. It also has high-tensile strength nylon webbing and double stitched stress points for added strength.

The micro pocket organizer is smaller in size compared to Maxpedition’s other products like the mini pocket organizer, EDC pocket organizer, and the fatty pocket organizer. So, it is not designed to accommodate bulky items.

 #10

Mars Gear Tactical Pocket Organizer

Mars Gear Tactical Pocket Organizer (Slate)

Our Rating: (4.2/5)
Size: 4.5”W x 7”H x 0.75”D
Weight: 8.0 Oz.

Pros:
(+) Classic look
(+) Compact design
(+) MOLLE compatible
Cons:
(-) Nylon fabric is not durable or water resistant
(-) Limited storage space

The Mars Gear tactical pocket organizer has a classic look, thanks to its minimalistic design. The internal slip pockets and the elastic loops allow you to neatly pack all your EDC items. The front slip pocket is where you can keep your smartphone. You can attach your keys to the lanyard.

The pouch is compact enough to carry around and can also be attached to your backpack using the MOLLE straps.

The downside is that the nylon fabric is pretty loosely woven. So, the pouch might be damaged if exposed to the elements. It might be a salient idea to spray the exterior with silicone spray to make it water resistant. The storage space is pretty limited, as the fabric does not stretch or expand much.

Final Thoughts

The EDC pouches we have reviewed here can be a great choice for anyone who likes to be prepared for the what-if scenarios in life. If we had to choose the best EDC pouch out of the ones we have reviewed above, we’d go with the VANQUEST EDCM-Husky2.0 Maximizer. It outranks other EDC pouches in terms of craftsmanship, durability, and storage space.

If you are looking for a more affordable EDC pouch, we’d recommend the CONDOR pocket pouch, which is sturdy, reliable, and very reasonably priced.
