When building a survival kit, a lot of people assume that the only things they need to have in it are medical supplies.

But a survival kit or bug-out bag should contain way more than just medical supplies. A survival kit usually contains things that help you survive in an emergency situation like a natural disaster, and that includes a lot more than medical supplies.

Emergency management personnel around the world always advise people to be prepared with a bug-out bag, in case of an emergency situation. But few heed the warning, only to find themselves without the essential supplies in an emergency.

A survival kit should ideally contain food and water, medical supplies, utility tools, important papers, and one or more powerful flashlights. A survival kit is incomplete without the addition of a flashlight.

A vital tool

Whether it’s a natural disaster, a fire, or an accident, you are more than likely to face darkness. A powerful flashlight can compensate for the absence of light and help you navigate your way.

When considering the addition of a Flashlight in a survival kit it must be seen that the flashlight is capable of functioning without electricity. And for this purpose, a flashlight with replaceable batteries is the safest option.

A rechargeable flashlight is also useful good but when there is no electricity for long hours charging the flashlight will become difficult. A solar powered flashlight is also a good choice for emergencies.

About Coast flashlights

coast-flashlights-logoAmerican-made flashlights are well-known, and one such company is Coast. The beginning of Coast dates back to 1919 when Henry Brands established the company in Oregon to manufacture utility tools for professionals. Although the company today is known for its flashlights, it began with producing knives.

When Henry Brands first moved to Oregon he worked as a salesman for a hardware company, selling cutlery among other items. Among the cutlery that he used to peddle were fillet knives for catching salmon.

While selling these knives, Henry Brands realized that they were not capable of doing the job efficiently. That’s when he decided to design and build his own fillet knives.

While still working as a salesman, Henry Brands developed a new fishing knife, with a thicker blade and also a metal scoop at the back. Because the new knife was stronger and stiffer, it could be used for slicing, cleaning as well as filleting.

Henry Brands started to sell these knives along with other hardware items. But the knife became popular soon and Henry Brands had to officially start Coast Cutlery Co. in 1919.

Because the Pacific Northwest has several trades in need of professional knives and tools, Coast didn’t take long at all to take off as a business. Henry Brands decided to venture into producing other tools as well, including knives and tools for lumberjacks, farmers, ranchers, and hunters.

Up until 1980, Coast manufactured only cutlery and utility tools, even as Henry Brands passed the baton to his son Henry Brands Jr. and then to David Brands.

A company that knows the trades

Pliers, scissors, screwdrivers, wrenches, saw blades, and other such tools were added to the lineup. Until late 1980s, Coast was known as the manufacturer of professional knives and utility tools for a variety of trades.

In 1996, the company decided to innovate by adding LED flashlights to their products. Since then, Coast flashlights have come in handy for both professional and recreational purposes.

Despite the stiff competition in the flashlight market Coast has stood out with its patented optic systems and advanced technology. Coast flashlights are regarded as some of the best and the brightest professional LED flashlights today, and you don’t have to break the bank in order to own one.

Coast made the first LED product in 1996, but it hasn’t stopped at that. The company has become one of the pioneers in handheld LED flashlights, and later, headlamps lanterns.

In 2002 Coast introduced the first LED flashlight that is now the G25, while the following year, the first LED Headlamp was introduced. In 2005, the first LED Lantern was developed, while in 2010, Coast patented the Pure Beam Focusing Optic technology for their lights.

That isn’t all. In 2013 the company also developed the Flex Charge Dual Power recharging system.

Whether you’re a backpacker, an outdoorsman, a rancher, or simply want to be prepared for emergencies, Coast flashlights are built for enduring all kinds of conditions. You can easily pick one to suit your needs and budget, so you don’t have to remain in the dark anymore come what may.
